A Smiling Town
Denmark’s second biggest city is Århus, beautifully situated on the shores of the Kattegatt sea. It’s surrounded by stunning landscapes of wide beaches, serene lakes, and opulent forests. The city traces its history to the 8th century when it was founded as a harbour settlement by the Århus River, and it quickly became a hub for trade in the region. It’s still a large centre for commerce, services, industry, and tourism today, but it has also evolved into a great centre for students and boasts the biggest university in Scandinavia. With youthful minds comes exciting things, and today you can enjoy ARoS AArhus art museum, eat your way through the different street food in the old bus hangars, or different food and music festivals throughout the year. It's a wonderful city to visit and get to know, and it won’t take long until you find out why everyone calls it Smilets By – the City of Smiles. Chances are you will end up smiling right back.
